MAZDA TOOLBOX APPLICATION FOR NAVIGATION SYSTEM SOFTWARE
It would be the 'Toolbox' software that would relay your card info (with your VIN). When you buy a card 'officially', there is a record of that purchase, and is matched with your VIN. With regards to the NAV system sending info. That app lets you download the map data to your phone so it works w/o internet connectivity, but I think the search functionality needs internet.Īnd with an educated guess (as an IT specialist). Without internet service, that makes navigation difficult, but not impossible thanks to the same HERE Maps that Mazda uses, is available for phones. Like other comments, I find the CarPlay mapping integration to be superior, but I do know there are areas in the country where my phone doesn't get service. Many years ago, DirecTV did something similar with smart cards that were sold online that allowed service w/o paying. If they can do that, then I wouldn't be too surprised if they could also issue updates/instructions that tell the vehicle to not honor the SD cards functionality.

My vehicle came with the Mazda one already, so that was worked into the price I paid unfortunately.įor them to know if you have one, the car's computer system must be getting over-the-air updates/instructions from the Mazda Connected Services on how to detect those SD cards that are being sold on Amazon/Ebay. I'm a tech nerd, sorry if I get too deep on stuff. There are still NAV cards for sale on both sites. The salesman at the Mazda dealership where I bought my CX-30 is the one who told me to buy the card off of Ebay or Amazon for $50 instead of from the dealership.

What I wanted to respond with was "if Mazda sold the map card at a reasonable price this would not be an issue." It's odd how Garmin (my aftermarket NAV of choice) can sell a whole NAV unit with LIFETIME map updates for between $100-$200 and Mazda prices just a dang SD card at hundreds of dollars. I'm thinking that there is nothing they can really do to a person who has one of the cards unless they could get the police to come search your car (with a search warranty) with their evidence you have it because you sent the evidence to them - the police should have better things to do.

I almost responded but simply deleted the email. I also picked up on how they were "nicely" suggesting things to do - my guess is they are gathering evidence and proof that one has a card they don't want you to have.
